Abstract

PURPOSE: To change the passing band width of a band-pass filter without a change of shape, by changing the relative angle between resonators.
CONSTITUTION: A desired band pass-filter can be realized by means of capacitors 13 and 14 for coupling input-output, split-ring resonators 15 and 16 and a degree of inter-stage coupling k12. The degree of inter-stage coupling k12 is adjusted to a desired value by changing the relative angle between the resonators 15 and 16. In the split-ring resonators 15 and 16, the most intense electric fields and lowest magnetic fields are produced at the connecting ends of capacity elements 17 and 18, whereas the weakest electric fields and highest magnetic fields are produced at the sections which are farthest from the elements 17 and 18. Therefore, when the relative angle between the resonators 15 and 16 is changed, the degree of inter-stage coupling between the resonators 15 and 16 can be changed even if the interval between the resonators is kept constantly. When the capacity values of the capacitors 13 and 14 for coupling input-output are adjusted in accordance with the degree of inter-stage coupling, band-pass filters having different passing band widths of the same shape can be realized.
