Abstract

PURPOSE:To emit an output light in the same direction as the propagating direction of an input light by bringing the polarizing faces of two light waves of a pump and a probe having different frequencies into coincidence with a laser amplifier formed with reflection preventive films on both end faces of a a semiconductor laser, and inputting them in the same direction. CONSTITUTION:A DC current is so applied between terminals 13 and 14 as to be forward with respect to the P-N junction of a semiconductor laser 11. An injection current is increased from the original oscillation threshold current of the laser 11 before reflection preventive films 15 are formed, and a signal gain of gain peak wavelength is set to approx. 20dB or more. Then, when two light waves of a pump and a probe having different frequencies aligned on the same optical axis by a wave combiner 16 are input as input lights 17 in the same propagating direction in a state that the polarizing faces of both become parallel to the active layer face of the laser, an output light 18 is produced in its transmitting direction.
