Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high-reliability optical demultiplexer which has the large degree of freedom of formation and a wide demultiplexing range by setting the grating constant of a transmission type diffraction grating so that only the shortest-wavelength light in light to be split is diffracted. CONSTITUTION:For example, when (n) kinds of wavelengths lambda1, lambda2,..., lambdan (where lambda1<lambda2<...<lambdan) are demultiplexed, (n-1) transmission type diffraction gratings 2a, 2b,..., 2n are arranged in order along a transmission to diffract and separate shorter-wavelength light in order and transmit the rest longer-wavelength light. Therefore, even if the pitch of the diffraction grating varies and the diffraction constant K varies, the demultiplexing range is windened by making incident to a Bragg angle (theta1 theta2) matching the incident angle with the diffraction grating K, and crosstalk is nearly eliminated. Consequently, the high-performance demultiplexer which has a wide demultiplexing range and corresponds to multiwavelength light is obtained under the condition that the degree of freedom of formation is large and the diffraction gratings are easily formed.
