Claims

A reader/writer main body having a card insertion/ejection port into which a card is inserted/ejected; a card transport path provided in the reader/writer main body that communicates with the card insertion/removal port; and a card insertion/removal port installed in the card transport path and connected to the card insertion/ejection port. a card transporting means for automatically taking in a card inserted from the card slot or ejecting the card inserted into the card insertion/ejection slot; a connector device that is brought into contact with a terminal of a card at a fixed position; a card detection means that detects insertion of the card into the reader/writer main body by the card transport means, arrival at the fixed position, and ejection; and the card detection means. control means for controlling the operation of the card transport means in response to a detection signal from the card transport means, and a shutter means for blocking the insertion of the next card while the card is being taken in, on the card insertion/ejection opening side of the card transport path.
