Conventionally, this type of brake rotor has been cast by integrally molding the entire rotor with cast iron, using a sand core for the air passage section. On the other hand, brake rotors are required to be smaller and lighter, and to achieve this, it is possible to reduce the outer diameter, the plate thickness of the sliding part with the brake butt, and the plate thickness of the hat part.
It involved problems with braking torque, strength, thermal fatigue strength, casting technology, etc., and could not be easily changed.

In order to reduce the plate thickness of the sliding part, it has been proposed to reduce the axial width of the air passage without making the base plate itself thinner due to the heat capacity and strength issues. The thickness of the core must be made thinner, which makes the core more likely to break and also makes molding of the core more difficult. However, there were certain limitations due to problems such as dimensional accuracy.

In view of the above features, the air passage is formed without using a sand core, the hat part is formed from a steel plate, and the width of the air passage is sufficiently narrow, making it easy to manufacture even if it is thin. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing a disc brake rotor.

The gist of the present invention is to configure a core by fixing a first steel plate including a hat part and a disc part and a second steel plate in which a plurality of air passages are formed radially through the disc part,
This core is placed in a mold, and sliding parts of cast iron are formed on the outside of the disc part of the first steel plate and the outside of the second steel plate by cast casting. A through hole is drilled in the contact area with the steel plate to enhance the casting effect.

Below, drawings showing embodiments to which the method of the present invention is applied will be described. In Figures 1 to 5,
The first steel plate 1 consists of a hat part 1a formed in an annular shape projecting outward, and a disk part 1b formed concentrically with the outer periphery of the hat part 1a. The second steel plate 2 has an annular shape with the same diameter as the disk portion 1b, and a plurality of concave portions 2a formed in a fan-shaped groove shape are formed at a predetermined angle and pitch between positions a predetermined distance inside from both the inner and outer diameters of the second steel plate 2. The depth W of the recess 2a (width of the air passage T) is defined as a functionally acceptable minimum dimension. A portion of the second steel plate 2 other than the concave portion 2a forms a convex portion 2b, and the convex portion 2b abuts the inner surface of the disc portion 1b, and the first steel plate 1 and the second steel plate 2 are arranged in a predetermined manner at the abutted portion. spot welding or
It is fixed with a predetermined number of studs. Elongated holes 3 are radially bored in the radial portion of the convex portion 2b that abuts the disk portion 1b so as to penetrate through the disk portion 1b as well.

The mold is composed of an upper mold 5 and a lower mold 6, and a core 4 formed by fixing a first steel plate 1 and a second steel plate 2 to the mold is installed with the first steel plate 1 facing upward. Here, a first cavity 7 is formed between the upper mold 5 and the first steel plate 1, and a second cavity 8 is formed between the lower mold 6 and the second steel plate 2. 8 is annular and its radial width is equal to the radial length of the recess 2a.

As shown in FIG. 4, the cast product obtained as described above is cut and removed at parts C, D, and E, and the surfaces of the sliding parts 9 and 10 made of cast iron are finished to form a disc brake. A rotor is obtained.

According to this invention, the air passage is formed between the first steel plate and the second steel plate.
Since it is formed by the first steel plate, its axial width (w) can be narrowed to the minimum necessary to reduce the thickness of the sliding part, and the hat part is formed by the first steel plate. Since the thickness of the disc brake rotor is formed, the thickness can be reduced to the necessary minimum, and therefore a lightweight disc brake rotor can be manufactured.

In addition, as shown in FIG. 6, this invention makes the second steel plate 12 open at both ends of the recess 12a in the radial direction without being closed, and prevents the molten metal from flowing into the recess 12a by the lower die 16. It can be configured as follows.
