Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a deodorant composition effective for removing the smell generated from the cigarette end discarded in an ash tray, by impregnating a carrier composed of an inorg. porous absorptive material with an aqueous formaldehyde solution. CONSTITUTION:A carrier composed of an inorg. porous adsorptive material is impregnated with a aqueous formaldehyde solution. As the inorg. porous adsorptive material, there are natural and synthetic zeolite or a silica gel. The concn. of the aqueous formaldehyde solution to be used is pref. 4wt.% or less and the impregnation amount thereof into the carrier composed of the porous adsorptive material is pref. the absorbing saturation limit amount of the carrier or less. The high concn. aqueous formaldehyde solution with concn. of 4wt.% or more can be used but, in this case, it is not pref. since a formaldehyde smell is generated from a deodorant composition.

Conventionally, filling ashtrays with water in smoking areas of various buildings has been widely used as a countermeasure against smoking, particularly as a countermeasure against cigarette butts. In order to improve the appearance of hotel lobbies, waiting rooms, and other areas where a large number of people come and go each year, large ashtrays are lined with crushed rocks. All of these conventional smoking countermeasures using ashtrays are aimed at preventing fires, that is, extinguishing fires.

If you leave an ashtray with cigarette butts in it after smoking in a place where a lot of people smoke, such as a meeting room, for example, until the next morning, you will smell a strong smell of cigarettes when you enter the room. It is well known that there are things that can be felt.

The use of air fresheners has been proposed as a means of eliminating such cigarette odors, but this method involves diluting the cigarette odor with a mixing tool with the fragrance of the air freshener, which is stronger than the cigarette odor. It is no different than fooling the sense of smell with other aromas, and does not eliminate the cigarette smell itself.

Another possible method for preventing fires is to line the ashtray with a nonflammable material that absorbs and eliminates cigarette odor, such as zeolite or silica gel.

Examples of inorganic porous adsorptive materials that can be used in the present invention include natural and synthetic zeolites or silica gels. The concentration of the aqueous formaldehyde solution used is preferably 4% by weight or less, and the amount of porous adsorbent material impregnated into the carrier is preferably less than the absorption saturation limit of the carrier.

Although it is possible to use an aqueous solution with a formaldehyde concentration higher than 4% by weight, this is not preferred because the deodorant composition will emit a formaldehyde odor. In addition, if the carrier is impregnated with a formaldehyde aqueous solution in an amount exceeding the absorption saturation limit of the carrier, the formaldehyde aqueous solution may ooze out from the carrier, dissolving and exuding brown tar from cigarette butts, which may stain the ashtray itself, so this is not preferred. do not have.

It is also possible to use acetaldehyde, which is similar to formaldehyde, in place of formaldehyde, but in this case, the carrier must be impregnated with a formaldehyde aqueous solution at a high concentration and in large quantities, and it is also possible to remove the cigarette odor caused by cigarette butts. It was found that this was not desirable because it produced an acetic acid odor.

According to the present invention, when a smoked cigarette butt is pushed into an ashtray lined with a carrier made of an inorganic porous adsorbent material impregnated with formalin drippings, the foul smell of tobacco that comes from the cigarette butt after extinguishing the fire does not occur; It is also possible to prevent the generation of cigarette odor from the butts protruding from the carrier layer.

The reason why the porous adsorptive material carrier impregnated with the formaldehyde aqueous solution mentioned above eliminates the cigarette odor caused by cigarette butts is not known for sure, but it is probably due to a combination of the reducing action of formaldehyde and the adsorption properties of the carrier itself. It is thought to deodorize the cigarette smell.

Example 1 In an ashtray with an inner diameter of 5G, various concentrations shown in Table 1 below were applied to each 10y of calcined natural zeolite from Shiroishi, Miyagi Prefecture (trade name Zeofive, manufactured by Gochi Co., Ltd.) as an inorganic adsorptive material having micropores. of formaldehyde aqueous solution
Each 1w1t of impregnated material was added, and 5 cigarette butts (half-smoked) were pushed in each to extinguish the fire.

Table 1 From the results in Table 1, it can be seen that when the concentration of the formaldehyde aqueous solution is up to 3%, there is no formaldehyde odor at all, and the cigarette tar odor is eliminated immediately after use and even after 24 hours, indicating that it has an excellent deodorizing effect. In the case of the 4-chi concentration, a slight formaldehyde odor was felt before use, but it was weak, and it was found that when a small amount of fragrance was added as a masking agent, the odor was masked and could not be detected. On the other hand 4
If the concentration exceeds 1, for example 6, a formaldehyde odor will be detected, which is undesirable.

In addition, the smell of cigarette tar was also examined 24 hours after each test. The results are shown in Table 2. In Table 2, when formaldehyde aqueous solution s mt was used, a brown exudate was observed at the bottom of the ashtray after 24 hours, and the cigarette tar odor was completely eliminated. Since this was not possible, it was found that it is not preferable to exceed the absorption saturation limit of the carrier.

Table 3 The results in Table 3 show that aqueous solutions of acetaldehyde, which is similar to formaldehyde, were not able to sufficiently deodorize cigarette tar odor (especially immediately after putting in the butts), and that the 10% and 8% concentrations after 24 hours had a deodorizing effect. In this case, it was found that the odor of acetic acid was emitted, which was not desirable.

As is clear from the data of the above examples, the deodorant composition according to the present invention is effective in deodorizing the cigarette tar odor emitted from cigarette butts remaining in the ashtray for a long period of time until the ashtray is cleaned. It is effective for For this reason, it is used not only for small ashtrays for personal use at home, but also for large ashtrays in offices, conference rooms, hotel rooms, lobbies, and other places where an unspecified number of people come and go, as well as ashtrays in cars. It has an excellent effect of being easy and simple to use and deodorizing it.
