The banknotes inserted from the banknote deposit/withdrawal slot are discriminated one by one, and the banknotes that are successfully discriminated are temporarily stored in the separate banknote temporary storage section, and the banknotes that are not correctly discriminated are stored in the unsortable banknote temporary storage section. Store temporarily. When the discrimination of all the inserted banknotes is completed, the banknotes temporarily stored as unidentifiable banknotes are returned to the banknote deposit/withdrawal port. If the banknotes are not reinserted, the transaction is considered complete and the banknotes stored in the N-separate banknote temporary storage section are stored in banknote cartridges for each denomination.

In the above operation, banknotes are conveyed one by one along the banknote conveyance path, but in order to shorten the transaction processing time only when returning unidentifiable banknotes to the banknote deposit/withdrawal slot, when there are multiple banknotes that cannot be distinguished. However, they were transported in bulk.

(1) Problems to be Solved by the Invention However, when a plurality of banknotes are conveyed in bulk, one or more of them may remain on the banknote conveyance path. In particular, many of the banknotes that could not be identified were wrinkled, damaged, etc., so there was an extremely high possibility that they would remain.

However, no banknote sensor is provided throughout the banknote conveyance path, and if an unidentifiable banknote remains in a place where there is no banknote sensor, this banknote cannot be detected. In addition, since multiple unidentifiable banknotes are returned at the same time, even if some of them are returned to Shigeru, if the remaining part is transported normally, the banknote sensor that detects the passage of banknotes will detect the remaining banknotes. could not be detected.

([1 Effect] In the banknote handling device according to the present invention, the input banknotes are discriminated, and after being temporarily stored in the separate banknote temporary storage section and the unidentifiable banknote temporary storage section, undistinguishable banknotes are input/outputted. After that, among the banknotes (normally verified banknotes) that have been temporarily stored in the separate banknote temporary storage section, - bills are returned to the banknote depository between the unidentifiable banknote temporary storage section and the banknote withdrawal terminal. The banknotes are conveyed along the banknote conveyance path.

If there are no remaining banknotes, the banknotes are normally transported and returned to the banknote temporary storage section. If a banknote remains on the banknote conveyance path, the banknote prevents the conveyance of the normally verified banknote, leading to a jam state and stopping. The presence or absence of residual banknotes can be detected based on whether or not this jam condition has occurred.

(g1 Effects of the Invention According to this invention, even if the banknotes remain in a state that cannot be detected by a sensor, such as when unidentifiable banknotes are returned all at once and a part of them remains on the banknote conveyance path, normal banknotes can be recognized. The presence of the remaining banknotes can be detected by the test conveyance of the banknotes.

FIG. 4 shows a schematic configuration of the banknote processing device 1 provided in the ATM. At the front (left side) of the device are a store section where customers' banknotes are stored, that is, a deposit/withdrawal slot 24 into which the customer inserts banknotes in order from the top, a verified banknote-time storage section 3, and an unidentifiable banknote-time storage section 4. It is provided. Further, at the rear of the device, banknote cartridges 5 to 7 for storing banknotes of the device (financial institution) and a defective banknote collection box 8 are provided. The banknote cartridges 5 to 7 store banknotes of 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen, and 1,000 yen, respectively. In addition, the defective banknote collection box 8 collects banknotes deposited by customers that are severely damaged or soiled (and cannot be used for withdrawal to other customers).

It is composed of a microcomputer system consisting of ROM 3 L RAM 32, and the CPU 32 is connected via a pass line to the control section of each part of the device, that is, the banknote deposit and withdrawal system.
FIG. 10B shows the residual detection required flag set in the RAM 32, in which the first banknote 33, the discrimination control section 34, the undistinguished banknote temporary storage control section 35, and the discrimination banknote temporary storage control section 3G are connected. This flag is set when residual banknote detection, which will be described later, is necessary, and reset when it is not necessary. This flag is set when there are a plurality of unidentifiable banknotes during a deposit transaction, or when an abnormality in feeding out of the banknotes from the banknote deposit/withdrawal port 24 occurs.

In this way, according to this ATM, even if some unidentifiable banknotes that have been returned in bulk remain on the banknote conveyance path and the remaining position is a position that cannot be detected by the banknote sensor,
The presence or absence of any remaining banknotes can be detected by passing the normally verified banknotes on the banknote conveyance path and detecting the normal completion of this test conveyance or the jamming of the banknotes. This prevents banknotes that should be returned to the customer from remaining in the device after the transaction ends and causing trouble, and if such banknotes remain in the device, it can be immediately shut down. You can ask the staff for assistance.
