Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress power consumption and to prevent waste heating by providing a circuit for receiving an interface signal for indicating a decrease of power consumption and cutting off or decreasing an actuator current in the case of the non-access state of magnetic disk device for a long period of time. CONSTITUTION:An interface input terminal 1 is inputted by a signal generated when no access is made to a magnetic head, and this signal is received by a reception circuit 2, where the reception circuit 2 outputs its corresponding signal. A magnetic head positioning drive circuit 4 acts as a positioning operation for the magnetic head by controlling of magnetic head positioning control circuit 3. Then, when a signal is received from the receiving circuit 2 (the positioning is not under operation at that time), the control is performed to reduce or shut off the power consumption of a magnetic head actuator 5. By this method, when no access is made to the magnetic head, the power consumption of he magnetic head on standby can be suppressed.
