Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the corrosion of the outer rib of a storage battery by forming a covered part of acid resistant synthetic resin in the periphery of upper outer rib by injection molding or compression molding, and heat bonding the covered part with a tube to form a clad type cathode plate. CONSTITUTION:An upper rib part consists of an upper outer rib 1 and a covered part 2 formed by covering the outer rib 1 with acidresistant synthetic resin by injection molding or compression molding. The covered part 2 is fitted to a tube 3, and the fitted part is heat-bonded. When the covered part 2 and the tube 3 are heat-bonded, the resin melted from the covered part 2 reaches the tube 3 and they are strongly bonded. The falling off of active material is de creased and the resulting precipitate is also decreased. The corrosion of the outer rib is prevented and a long life, reliable, low cost storage battery can be obtained.

The upper rib portion is composed of an upper rib and a covering portion made of an acid-resistant synthetic resin that covers the upper rib. The covering portion is formed by injection molding or compression painting. The synthetic resin is polyethylene or the like. Next, the covering portion and the tube are fitted, and the fitting portion is thermally bonded. The storage battery of the present invention was obtained by maintaining thermal bonding at around 300° C. for 10 seconds. The relationship between the amount of precipitates and the number of cycles A/number in a charge/discharge test for the storage battery of the present invention and a conventional storage battery is shown.

The amount of precipitate is extremely small compared to conventional products (4) and (8). This is because the covering part covers the main rib, and the covering part and the tube are thermally bonded on the contacting surfaces, so the resin eluted from the covering part's contacting surface with the tube reaches the tube and is firmly bonded, so the active material The amount of falling off is small, and the amount of precipitate is also small.
