Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve storage characteristic of battery under high humidity condition by using a ceramic or glass as an insulator. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic is integrally formed to the circumferencial edge of a sealing plate 7 as an insulator 8 and the circumferencial edge is formed almost same as the shape of internal surface of a case 1. The portion (a) is coated with bonding agent in order to enhance close contactness between the circumferencial edge of ceramic insulator 8 and internal surface of case.

In the figure, 1 is a dish-shaped metal case, and 2 is a current collector placed at the bottom of the case 1. 3 is a positive electrode mixture placed on the current collector 2, and its main component is manganese dioxide or carbon fluoride. 4 is an electrolyte-impregnated material impregnated with an organic electrolyte. Reference numeral 6 denotes metal lithium as a negative electrode placed on the electrolyte-impregnated material 4. Reference numeral 6 denotes a ring-shaped insulator having an L-shaped cross section, and is usually made of a resin molded product such as polypropylene having excellent solvent resistance. 7 is a substantially inverted dish-shaped metal sealing plate that closes the opening of the case 1 with an insulator 6 interposed therebetween;
The opening of the case 1 is caulked by applying force from the outside.

As mentioned above, resin materials such as polypropylene have conventionally been used for insulators, and there has been a problem in that when batteries are stored in humid conditions, moisture enters the interior of the battery. Particularly in the case of non-aqueous electrolyte batteries, when moisture enters the inside of the battery, the internal resistance of the battery increases and the voltage deteriorates.

Structure of the Invention In order to achieve the above-mentioned object, the present invention provides, as an insulator,
Ceramic or glass is used, preferably integrally molded around the periphery of the sealing plate, and used to assemble the battery. With such a configuration, it is possible to prevent moisture from entering the inside of the battery under high humidity conditions, and to improve the storage characteristics of the battery.

FIG. 3 shows an insulator 8 formed by integrally molding ceramic around the periphery of the sealing plate. Because ceramic lacks toughness,
As shown in the figure, the shape of the periphery was made to be approximately the same as the shape of the inner surface of the case after sealing. FIG. 4 shows the component configuration of the battery. In order to increase the degree of adhesion between the periphery of the ceramic insulator and the inner surface of the case, adhesive was applied to part a to assemble the battery.

Effects of the Invention As is clear from FIG. 5, by using an entirely ceramic insulator, a battery with very excellent characteristics under high humidity conditions was obtained. Furthermore, when glass was used instead of ceramic, a battery with similar high humidity characteristics was obtained.
