Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a module for liquid crystal display by installing an external circuit device in a hole part formed in a cell for liquid crystal display on the basis of the through hole of an electrode substrate. CONSTITUTION:Two electrode substrates 2 and 2 which have a transparent electrode pattern on one surface of a base material and also has an oriented film for orienting liquid crystal thereupon are arranged while having their electrode pattern sides opposite each other. Then the module consists of the liquid crystal display cell 1 formed by charging liquid crystal 4 between the substrates 2 and 3 through a seal material 5 and a liquid crystal driving circuit device 6 as the external circuit device. This substrate 2 has the through hole 2 at its center part and the cell 1 has the hole part 1' in the center on the basis of the hole 2. End parts of the transparent electrode patterns forming the terminal part of the cell are led out to the inner edge part of the hole part 1'. Consequently, the position of the external circuit device installed at the hole part 1' to the cell is fixed securely.

However, in this type of liquid crystal display module, (1) the lead part for forming the terminal part drawn out from the central part of the cell and the part away from the outer edge becomes long, making the lead wiring complicated; (2) Connections with external circuit devices using anisotropic connectors, etc. at the outer edge are likely to be destroyed by photography, etc., and the reliability of the connections is poor. , (3) There is little freedom in selecting the cell form due to connection with external circuit devices, for example, it is difficult to fashion the cell form;
(4) There was a question that the liquid crystal immersion cell and the external circuit device are located in parallel, making it difficult to downsize them.
