A cylinder tube whose both ends are closed by end covers, a piston movably inserted into the cylinder tube, a piston rod fixed to the piston, and a piston rod connected to a supply/discharge passage formed in the end cover. In a cylinder equipped with a speed control valve, one end cover has two connection and discharge passages, and the other side has one supply and discharge passage, each of which opens into the cylinder chamber. The supply and discharge passage of one end cover and the supply and discharge passage of the other end cover are communicated by a supply and discharge pipe that passes through the piston within the cylinder tube and extends parallel to the piston rod.
