This is achieved by applying the sizing agent to the pitch fibers while preventing the pitch fibers from directly acting on the pitch fibers by the compressed air jet of the sizing agent. Further, the present invention provides an introduction chamber provided with a spray nozzle for spraying and introducing a sizing agent for carrying out this method, and a dispersion chamber provided with a pitch fiber inlet and an outlet. A sizing agent applying device is provided that includes a box that communicates with a communication portion in a direction substantially perpendicular to the injection direction.

The drawing is a front view of an embodiment of the present invention, and numeral 1 shows a box in which a sizing agent is sprayed in the form of a mist in the interior space. The internal space of this box 1 communicates with an introduction chamber 5 into which the focusing liquid introduced into the pipe 2 is injected and introduced from the spray nozzle 4 by the airflow of compressed air introduced into the pipe 3. , and a dispersion chamber 6 which is filled with atomized sizing agent in an introduction chamber 5 and adheres the sizing agent in the form of a mist to pitch fibers passing through a fiber inlet and an outlet. In this case, in order to prevent the jet flow of compressed air of the sizing agent injected into the introduction chamber 5 by the spray nozzle 4 from directly acting on the pitch fibers passing through the spraying chamber 6, the sizing agent by the spray nozzle 4 is The introduction chamber 5 and the dispersion chamber 6 are communicated with each other through a communication section substantially perpendicular to the injection direction. spray nozzle 4
It is preferable that the focusing liquid sprayed from the introduction chamber 5 is made to collide with the bottom or inside of the introduction chamber 5 to be atomized. Reference numeral 7 denotes a pipe for collecting the residual sizing agent into a tank 8, which communicates with the bottom of the box 1. The pitch fiber 10 melt-spun from the spinning nozzle 9 is passed through the suction nozzle 1.
1, passes through the scattering chamber 6 of box 1 through the pitch fiber inlet and outlet,
After the atomized sizing agent 12 is applied, it is wound up by a winder 13. Reference numeral 14 denotes a metering and sizing agent application device, which re-applies a predetermined amount of sizing agent sent by a pump (not shown) through holes 15 to the fibers 10 to which the atomized sizing agent has been applied. The concentration and filling degree of the atomized sizing agent 12 in the box 1 can be adjusted to some extent by adjusting the amount sprayed from the spray nozzle 4, but the amount adjustment of the atomized sizing agent 12 is unstable and The quantity may be insufficient. Therefore, a metering and sizing agent application device 14 is used to stably adjust the amount of sizing agent 12 and ensure the absolute amount.

This prevents breakage and breakage of the fragile pitch fibers, making it possible to perform subsequent processing such as high-speed winding. In addition, since the sizing agent is applied once in the previous step, the pitch fibers will not break or break even if the sizing agent is applied by a metered amount using a spray nozzle method, an oiling roller method, etc.
