[Detailed Description of the Invention] This invention relates to an improvement of a resin bumper that is installed at the bottom of a radiator grill and has an air intake port for ventilation to the radiator.

In recent years, large-sized resin bumpers often have, in addition to the radiator grille, an elongated air intake opening along the longitudinal direction in order to ensure ventilation to the radiator.
It is configured as shown in the figure. That is, 1 is a bumper bar made of synthetic resin, and 2 is a back-up beam. These bumper bar 1 and back-up beam 2 are supported by the vehicle body via a stay (not shown).
Further, 3 is a front cross member, 4 is a radiator, and 5 is a radiator grille. The bumper bar 1 is installed at the lower part of the radiator grille 5, and has an air intake port 6 formed therein to ensure ventilation to the radiator 4. At the same time, the lower part 1a of the air intake port 6, which lacks rigidity, is reinforced with the reinforcing member 7.

However, in such a conventional configuration, there is a relatively large gap 8 between the bumper bar 1 provided with the air intake port 6 and the front cross member 3 at the front end of the vehicle body. There was a problem in that a considerable portion of the air escaped downward through the gap 8 and did not act effectively on the radiator 4. In addition, the lower part 1a of the air intake port 6
The rigidity of the bumper is insufficient, and as mentioned above, the reinforcing member 7 is required in this portion, which is a factor that hinders the reduction in weight of the entire bumper (see Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 153941/1983).

この考案は上記従来の問題点に鑑みてなされた

This idea was devised in view of the above-mentioned conventional problems, and involved extending the elongated flange along the longitudinal direction of the bumper at the lower edge of the air intake port rearward, and fixing it to the front cross member directly below the radiator. Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a resin bumper that improves the rigidity of the lower part of the air intake port, prevents the introduced air from leaking to the lower side of the radiator, and effectively takes air into the radiator.

FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of this invention, in which an air intake port 12 is formed in a bumper bar 11 made of synthetic resin, and an elongated flange 13 along the longitudinal direction of the bumper at the lower edge is extended rearward. , whose tip is fixed to the front cross member 3 directly below the radiator 4 using a bolt 14 or a clip. The backup beam 15 is disposed only above the air intake port 12.

In this way, the flange 13 on the lower edge of the air intake port 12
As a result of extending this rearward and fixing it to the front cross member 3 directly below the radiator 4, the rigidity of the lower part 11a of the air intake port 12 is significantly improved. Therefore, there is no need to specifically provide a reinforcing member in this portion, which simplifies the structure and reduces weight. At the same time, the flange 13 forms the lower surface of the air flow path from the air intake port 12 to just below the radiator 4, so that the air taken in can be effectively supplied to the radiator 4 without escaping below the radiator 4. Radiator 4 due to driving wind
can be cooled more effectively.

FIG. 3 shows a spoiler 2 on the lower edge of the bumper bar 21.
This shows an embodiment in which the present invention is applied to a large resin bumper integrally molded with the bumper bar 21 and the spoiler 22. Similarly, it is formed to extend rearward, and its tip is fixed to the front cross member 3 directly below the radiator 4 using a clip 27 or a bolt.

In the case of this embodiment as well, as in the previously described embodiment, not only can the air taken in from the air intake port 23 be effectively used, but the rigidity of the spoiler 22 in particular has been dramatically improved, and the steel plate etc. This makes it possible to sufficiently withstand the wind pressure applied here without using any reinforcing members. Therefore, there is no fear of deformation due to interference with road protrusions or curb stones, which would be a problem when steel plates or the like are used, and the advantages of resin materials can be fully utilized. In the figure, 25 is a back-up beam, and 26 is a shock-absorbing resin such as urethane foam filled between the beam 25 and the bumper bar 21.

As is clear from the above explanation, according to the resin bumper of this invention, air taken in from the air intake can be effectively supplied to the radiator without escaping below the radiator, and the rigidity of the lower part of the air intake can be significantly improved. Since the bumper can be improved, no reinforcing material is required, and the structure of the bumper can be simplified and the weight can be reduced.
