Abstract

PURPOSE:To double the extent of productivity, by marking two piston rings in a way of irradiating a laser beam out of one laser system to them alternately. CONSTITUTION:Each of two piston rings 1 and 1' is fed into positioners 3 and 3' by a pusher 2 and locked thereto by a spring 4. A laser beam 5 out of one light source of a laser system is directed to the right direction by a mirror 6a, then directed to a direction orthogonal with a paper surface by a mirror 6a', and it is irradiated to a marking position 8 of the ring 1. If marking to the piston ring 1 is over, the mirror 6a moves upward, and the laser beam 5 is directed to the right direction by the mirror 6b, then directed to a direction orthogonal with the paper surface by a mirror 6b', thus it is irradiated to the marking position 8 of the ring 1'. During the marking to this ring 1', a new ring 1 is disposed on the positioner 3.

The method for marking the upper surface of the piston ring is to perform various surface treatments such as Cr plating, iron plating, nitriding, phosphorous salt coating, etc., and then mark the piston ring as shown in Figure 2. A conventional method is to send the ring 1 to a predetermined position on the positioning device 22 using a bushing 21, fix it, and stamp the ring 1 at the marking position of the upper surface mating opening 23 using a marking device.

In the conventional marking method for the upper surface of a piston ring, the piston ring is stopped at a predetermined position and is engraved in one series, so in order to make the markings visually readable,
It must be engraved to a depth of 0.03- or more. If the engraving depth is increased, curling will occur in proportion to the depth,
- There was a problem that the flatness of the stamped surface was impaired. Also,
Since it is a series of stamping operations, there is a problem in that productivity is low. It was not possible to improve the indistinctness and flatness of the stamp by various surface treatments.

The mirror 6b is linked to a computer (not shown) and moves in accordance with the characters and figures engraved at the marking position 8. During this marking of the piston ring 1', a new piston ring 1 is placed on the positioning device 3, completing its preparation for receiving the marking described above. These steps are repeated to continuously mark the piston ring.

The test material is I) = 70m+, B is 1.5 dew, the material is flake graphite cast iron, and the piston ring is treated with a zinc-based phosphate coating, expressed as the area ratio per pull on the surface plate. The flatness of the upper surface of the piston ring, the curvature measured with a roughness measuring device, and the clarity expressed by the necessity of visual reading inspection were inspected under the laser conditions shown in Table 1.
