PURPOSE:To reduce a load on a printing head and enable throughput of printing to be enhanced, by printing a heavy-duty line in a single printing operation by lowering a printing speed to a speed at which the heavy-duty line can be printed. CONSTITUTION:When a heavy duty is detected with respect to a line, a spacing motor 10 is rotated at a rotating speed (1,000pps) equal to, for example, one half of that before the detection of the heavy duty, thereby printing the line in a single printing operation under control. Namely, a heavy duty detecting circuit 3 detects the heavy duty based on the ratio of the sum of the numbers of print dots for characters to be printed which are generated by a character generator 2 to the total number of all print dots, and a detection signal 4 is outputted to a spacing motor controlling part 6, thereby printing in the manner shown in the diagram.
