Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic containing mucopolysaccharide, phospholipid and inorganic salt as essential components, effective in preventing drying and roughening of skin, giving springiness and softness to the skin and having excellent moisture-retaining and protecting effect. CONSTITUTION:The objective cosmetic contains (A) a mucopolysaccharide (e.g. hyaluronic acid, hyaluronic acid-protein complex, chondroitin-4- or -6-sulfuric acid, etc.), (B) a phospholipid (e.g. soybean lecithin, yolk lecithin, their additives, etc.) and (C) an inorganic salt (e.g. physiologically permissible salt of uni- or bivalent metal such as Ka, K, Ca, Mg, etc.) as essential components. Preferably, the amount of A and B is 0.0001-5.0wt% each and that of C is 0.01-5.0wt%. The activities of the components A-C are synergetically exhibited in the cosmetic to achieve remarkable moisture-retaining effect. Accordingly, a cosmetic (especially a water-based cosmetic) having excellent skin-protecting effect and moisture-retaining property can be produced.

[Conventional technology] The mechanism of moisturization in the skin is still unclear due to the involvement of complex factors. Among these, the amount of water in the stratum corneum is a function of the structure and function of the stratum corneum. In the stratum corneum of healthy skin, an appropriate amount of water is maintained through a balance between water supply from inside and outside the body and water evaporation from the skin.

However, for people with dry skin that secretes little sebum, or when this balance is disrupted due to seasonal changes, the moisture content of the stratum corneum decreases, causing the skin to become dry and, in extreme cases, to develop cracks and chapped skin. This may occur.
