Under these circumstances, this researcher first considered the application of various compounds such as phosphates, borates, and silicates as water-soluble lubricants, but it was difficult to use them alone. It was not possible to obtain sufficiently satisfactory lubricity. After further investigation, it was discovered that excellent lubricity and rust prevention can be obtained by using phosphate in combination with polyhydric alcohols in an appropriate pH range.

The mixing ratio of the phosphoric acid-based inorganic compound and the polyhydric alcohol is not necessarily limited because it varies depending on the type of lubricant used and the type of target metal and non-metal (glass, plastic, etc.). In general, the amount of phosphoric acid-based inorganic compounds in the lubricant during use is 0.005 in terms of P2O5.
The content is adjusted to 10% by weight, preferably 0.1 to 5% by weight.

The lubricant of the present invention has a pH adjusted to a range of 4 to 12, particularly preferably 7 to 12, during use. If the pH is too low, the rust prevention properties will decrease. If the pH is higher than 12, it becomes irritating to the skin and begins to have an unfavorable effect on non-ferrous metals. The pH can be easily adjusted by changing the type and blending ratio of the phosphoric acid-based inorganic compound used.
