Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize high-quality, sharp recording on a recording medium having at least a dual structure such as general-purpose recording paper like commercial high-grade paper or envelope by providing a heating element for heating both sides of a recording medium before printing on the recording medium, and a heating element for heating the recording surface or non-recording surface of the recording medium after printing. CONSTITUTION:A heating element 3 heats the non-recording surface of a recording medium 5 and a heating element 4 heats the recording surface. The heating elements used 3, 4 are hollow aluminium cylinders with a sheet-like sheathed heaters formed around the former, for instance, and heats the recording medium by contact heat transfer. In the meantime, a heating element 7a which heats the recording surface of the recording medium 5 after printing on the recording medium is provided near the recording medium, so that a radiant heat from a halogen lamp 9 is effectively transmitted to the recording medium 5. The heating condition of the recording medium 5 is detected by a temperature sensor 8a, 8b, and the operation of the heating elements 3, 4, 7 is controlled by a temperature control circuit so that the temperature of the recording medium 5 may reach almost a set value.
