なる3個の吸気弁と、第1吸気通路、第2吸気通
路および第3吸気通路からなる3個の吸気通路と
を具備し、燃焼室内に旋回流を発生させるための
第1吸気通路が第1吸気弁を介して燃焼室内に連
結され、第2吸気弁を介して燃焼室内に連結され
た第2吸気通路内に機関高負荷運転時に開弁する
吸気制御弁を配置し、第2吸気弁を介して燃焼室
内に連結された第3空気通路内に主燃料噴射弁を
配置し、第1吸気弁および第2吸気弁が吸気行程
の上死点付近から圧縮行程始めまで開弁すると共
に第3吸気弁が吸気行程の中央付近から圧縮行程
始めまで開弁する燃料噴射式内燃機関において、
第1吸気通路および第2吸気通路内に燃料を供給
する副燃料噴射弁を具備し、機関負荷に応じて上
記主燃料噴射弁および副燃料噴射弁を制御するこ
とにより機関負荷が予め定められた負荷よりも小
さいときには第3吸気通路のみから混合気を燃焼
室内に供給し、機関負荷が予め定められた負荷よ
りも大きいときには第1吸気通路、第2吸気通路
および第3吸気通路から燃焼室内に燃料を供給す
るようにした複数の吸気弁を具えた燃料噴射式内
