るように構成されており、両摺動面は滑らかに摺
動し、かつ該摺動面間を横切つて流体が洩れない
よう極めて精密な平面に仕上げられているが、実
際使用される場合は圧力および温度等の影響によ
り摺動面が若干歪むため洩れ易くなる。したがつ
て一般に一方のリング部材aが若干歪んでも他方
のリング部材bが、該リング部材aに倣うようリ
ング部材bの摺動面をカーボンのごとき軟質(低
ヤング率)の材料で構成しており、このため摺動
に伴なう摩耗が早く、メカニカルシールの寿命を
短かくする原因となつていた。
