Conventionally, this type of oil pan is made of sheet metal in order to reduce its weight and to prevent it from cracking due to impact, and is manufactured by so-called deep drawing press processing from a soft iron plate. However, as with modern cars, where there are many auxiliary machines and devices mounted in the engine compartment, it may be necessary to secure oil volume by increasing the depth of the oil pan due to the layout. In addition, when an internal combustion engine mounted on a cap-over type vehicle is installed in an inclined manner, the oil pan must be installed in order to secure a predetermined amount of lubricating oil and to secure the height from the underground surface. The depth increases. If the oil pan is deepened in this way, it will be difficult to form one piece using deep drawing press processing, and the rigidity of the side plates will be insufficient, causing the side plates to vibrate due to engine vibrations, increasing engine noise. Furthermore, as the bottom area increases, fluctuations in the lubricating oil level within the oil pan increase, which causes a problem in that air is sucked in from the oil strainer.

In this invention, such a deep oil pan made of sheet metal is divided into upper and lower halves, each of which is press-formed separately.
By welding the two together, deep drawing press forming is facilitated, while the upper and lower joints increase the rigidity of the side plate and reduce noise caused by membrane vibration. This provides resistance to the shaking and agitation of the lubricating oil and reduces oil level fluctuations.

Below, we will explain the drawings of an embodiment in which the present invention is applied to an oil pan of a tilted engine. Each oil pan attached to the lower surface of the crankcase 2 is shown, and the oil pan 3 consists of an upper oil pan 4 having a rectangular cylindrical shape and a lower oil pan 5 having a box shape with a bottom and an open top. Both oil pans 4 and 5 are both formed of thin plates of soft iron, and the upper end of the upper oil pan 4 is bent outward to allow fastening of a plurality of bolts 6 to the crankcase 2 of the engine. On the other hand, the periphery of the lower end of the upper oil pan 4 is bent inward to form a joining edge 8 to the lower oil pan 5. Further, the upper end of the lower oil pan 5 is bent outward to form a joining edge 9, and the joining edge 9 is bent outward.
is aligned with the joint edge 8 of the upper oil pan 4, and then joined by welding 10 to the entire outer periphery.

In this way, connect the oil pan 3 to the upper oil pan 4.
and a lower oil pan 5, the upper oil pan 3 is made into a rectangular tube shape, and the upper end thereof is bent outward and joined to the flange portion 7, and the lower end is bent inward and joined. The upper oil pan 4 can be formed by a single deep drawing press from a metal plate, and the lower oil pan 5 can be formed into a box shape with a bottom and an open top. , by bending the upper end periphery outward to form a joint edge 9,
The lower oil pan 5 can also be formed from a metal plate by one deep drawing press, and the drawing depth of both deep drawings is smaller than when the entire oil pan 3 is integrally formed by deep drawing press. Because it becomes shallow,
Deep drawing press processing of both the upper and lower oil pans 4 and 5 becomes simple and easy.

In addition, since the deep drawing press processing of the upper oil pan 4 becomes easier and the processing accuracy of the flange portion 7 can be improved, the sealing performance of the joint to the engine crankcase 2 is improved, and oil leakage is reliably prevented. You get it.

Moreover, since the upper and lower oil pans 4 and 5 are joined by the inward joining edge 8 around the lower end of the upper oil pan 4 and the outward joining edge 9 around the upper end of the lower oil pan 5, both joining edges 8 , 9 is oil pan 3
Since it becomes a reinforcing part that surrounds the whole of the oil pan, the rigidity of each side part increases, which prevents an increase in membrane vibration caused by deepening the oil pan, and reduces engine noise. Also, by joining the inward joining edge 8 of the upper oil pan 4 to the outward joining edge 9 of the lower oil pan 5, the size of the lower oil pan 5 is reduced by the width of the joint. It is inevitably smaller than the pan 4, and a step is formed between it and the upper oil pan 4.
Since this level difference provides resistance to the shaking and agitation of the lubricating oil in the oil pan, fluctuations in the lubricating oil level can be reduced. In this case, the inward joint edge 8 of the upper oil pan 4 is as shown in the figure.
If the extensions 8', 8' are formed by appropriately extending inward from the inner dimension of the lower oil pan 5, the strength of the side surface of the oil pan is further increased, and the extensions 8', 8' are able to absorb lubricating oil. By eliminating the effect of the buffful plate on the lubricating oil level, fluctuations in the lubricating oil level can be further reduced.
