Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a Pt alloy for an ornament consisting of prescribed weight percentage of Pt, Cu and Rh, having superior mechanical strength as well as superior workability and producing hardly blow holes during casting. CONSTITUTION:This Pt alloy for an ornament consists of 84-96wt% Pt, 1-15wt% Cu and 0.5-14wt% Rh. In the Pt alloy, Cu is added because it improves the mechanical strength and inhibits the production of blow holes during casting, and Rh is added because it controls the amount of copper oxide formed on the surface of molten metal during melting and further improves the mechanical strength without lowering the yield of products during casting. Since the Pt alloy has the above-mentioned superior characteristics, it is regarded as an epoch-making alloy substitutable for a conventional Pt alloy for an ornament.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] (Industrial Application Field) The present invention is applicable to rings, necklaces, brooches, tie pins,
This invention relates to the improvement of platinum alloys used as materials for cufflinks, watch frames, watch bands, lighters, writing utensils, eyeglass frames, earrings, etc.

(Prior Art and its Problems) Conventionally, platinum-palladium (5 to 15% by weight) alloy has been widely used as a decorative material as described above. However, although platinum-palladium alloy has excellent workability, its mechanical strength and especially its hardness are low, so it is easily scratched and stamped during polishing, and it is difficult to produce gloss, and when used as a finished product. They are also prone to scratches, and especially in the case of rings with jewels, the part that holds the jewels in place loosens and the jewels fall off. Another drawback was that cavities were formed during casting.

(Object of the Invention) The present invention was made in order to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a platinum alloy for ornaments that has excellent workability as well as mechanical strength, and which produces fewer cavities during casting. That is.

(Structure of the Invention) The platinum alloy for ornaments according to the present invention consists of 84 to 96% by weight of platinum, 1 to 15% by weight of copper, and 0.5 to 14% by weight of rhodium.

The reason why copper is added to the platinum alloy for decorative items according to the present invention is to improve mechanical strength and suppress the formation of cavities during casting, and the amount of copper added is 1 to 15% by weight. If the content is less than 1% by weight, it is not sufficient to improve mechanical strength and suppress the formation of cavities during casting, and if it exceeds 15% by weight, a large amount of copper oxide will be generated on the melt surface during melting. This is because the product yield is reduced due to the incorporation of the oxide during casting.

In addition, rhodium was added to suppress the amount of copper oxide generated in the melting process and to further improve mechanical strength without reducing the product yield during casting. If it is less than 0.5% by weight, the improvement in mechanical strength is low;
This is because if it exceeds 14% by weight, it has the effect of suppressing the amount of copper oxide generated, but the melting point becomes too high and castability deteriorates.

(Examples and Conventional Examples) Regarding the hardness and the degree of occurrence of cavities during casting of the platinum alloys for ornaments of Examples 1 to 3 and the platinum alloys for ornaments of conventional examples with component plasticity shown in the left column of the table below, When each was measured, the results shown in the right column of the table below were obtained.

(Effects of the Invention) As detailed above, the platinum alloy for ornaments of the present invention has excellent workability and mechanical strength, and the occurrence of cavities during casting is low, so it can replace conventional platinum alloys for ornaments. It can be said that this is an epoch-making thing that can be done.
