Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate a twisting moment excerting on the lower portion of a damper by configurating a device in such a way that the damper is provided between two lower arms consisting of a front and a rear one, the lower portion of the damper is arranged near the wheel center of a knuckle, and is connected with the lower portion of a wheel center when the device is shown in side view. CONSTITUTION:An axle 11 is protrusively installed on a knuckle 1 so as to support a wheel rotatably, and each of lower arms 3 and 4, and furthermore an upper arm 5 through an arm section 12 are pivotedly fixed on the knuckle simultaneously. Besides, a trailer arm 6 is bolted together with a fork section 13, which projects from the knuckle 1, at its forked portion 61. In this configuration, the lower portion 81 of a hydraulic damper 8 is arranged between the lower arms 3 and 4, and its lower portion 82 is pivotedly fixed on the lower installation section 14 of the knuckle 1 through an elastic bush 83 simultaneously. And when the device is shown in side view, the upper portion 84 of the damper 8 is connected with a body in such a way that the lower portion 81 of the damper 8 is allowed to coincide roughly with the wheel center C.

(Prior Art) The present applicant has disclosed in Japanese Patent Application No. 58-199710 that a trailing arm is attached to a knuckle that supports a wheel, and a trailing arm is attached to the front. &2
An independent rear suspension is disclosed in which the lower arm is connected to the upper arm and the upper arm is connected to the arm portion extending upward from the knuckle. According to this, the same mechanical characteristics as a double wishbone type suspension can be obtained.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) In such an independent rear suspension, for example, when the lower end of the damper is connected to the lower arm, the lower end of the damper is offset in the longitudinal direction from the wheel center when viewed from the side. When the wheel moves up and down, the lower end of the damper is covered with off-sera) 1. :: A torsional moment is generated, which is undesirable from the standpoint of damper function-L, and additional external force acts on the elastic bushing interposed between the upper end of the damper and the vehicle body. Furthermore, it is necessary to increase the strength of the lower arm in order to receive the torsional moment, which increases the weight of the restuspension components.

Therefore, an object of the present invention is to effectively utilize the space between the two front and rear lower arms in the above-mentioned type of rear suspension to arrange the damper, and to eliminate the generation of torsional moment to the lower end of the damper, thereby improving the suspension. To provide an independent rear suspension that contributes to weight reduction and also achieves an increase in damper stroke.

(Function) Since the damper (8) is installed between the front and rear lower arms (3) and (4), the space between the lower arms (3) and (4) can be used effectively, and the lower part of the damper (8) can be seen from the side. Since it almost coincides with the wheel center (C) of the knuckle (1), almost no remote moment is generated in the damper (8), which is advantageous in terms of the functionality of the damper and the elastic bushing at its upper end, making the suspension lighter. Moreover, since the lower end of the damper (8) is connected to the lower part of the wheel center (C) of the knuckle (1), the stroke of the damper (8) can be increased.
