2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, electronic wristwatches have been actively developed that digitally display the time on a liquid crystal panel or the like using micro-sized batteries such as silver oxide batteries.
Conventionally, this type of electronic wristwatch has been constructed, for example, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, respectively.
That is, 1 is an upper housing, 2 is a lower housing, and the housing of the electronic wristwatch is constituted by the combination of these. Fitting hole 3 of upper housing 1
A liquid crystal panel 4 for digitally displaying time, date, etc., supported by a presser member (not shown) is fitted into the panel. External lead-out terminals of the liquid crystal panel 4 are provided on both sides of the lower surface of the liquid crystal panel 4, and these terminals are connected to a circuit board 6 separately arranged on the lower surface of the liquid crystal panel 4 via an interconnector 5. It is electrically connected to terminal 7. On the bottom surface of the circuit board 6,
An LSI 8, a crystal resonator, a silver oxide battery 10, a temperature compensation capacitor 11, a trimmer capacitor 12, etc. are installed. A lower housing 2 is disposed on the lower surface of the circuit board 6, and the lower housing 2 has storage holes 13, 14, and 15 into which a crystal resonator 9, a silver oxide battery 10, and a trimmer capacitor 12 are inserted, respectively. It is perforated. Thus, the upper housing 1, the circuit board 6, and the lower housing 2 are fixed with screws or the like (not shown), with the interconnector 5 interposed between the terminals of the liquid crystal panel 4 and the circuit board 6.

However, in such conventional ones,
It requires a patterned circuit board to mount and fix electronic components such as the LSI 8 and crystal oscillator 9, as well as to electrically connect each component. Moreover, the external lead-out terminals of the liquid crystal panel are interconnected. Through-hole processing or the like must be performed on the circuit board in order to establish an electrical connection between the terminals on the circuit board that are electrically connected through the connector and the electronic components mounted on the bottom surface of the circuit board. Therefore, an expensive circuit board is required, which not only increases the number of parts but also has poor workability and productivity. In addition, since liquid crystal panels and other electronic components are indirectly connected via pattern wiring, if there is a disconnection in the circuit pattern, malfunctions or other inconveniences may occur, resulting in poor reliability. It wasn't.
Furthermore, since the interconnector 5 is simply held between the external terminals of the liquid crystal panel 4 and the terminals 7 of the circuit board 6 during assembly, there is a risk of misalignment, making the assembly complicated. I couldn't escape.

The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and it is an object of the present invention to provide an electrical connection structure for an optical display panel that has a small number of parts, can improve workability and mass productivity, and has excellent reliability.

Reference numeral 31 denotes a flat LSI package that is electrically connected to the liquid crystal panel 26 and other electronic components. It consists of rectangular plate-shaped substrates 32 made of a material such as synthetic resin or ceramic and having approximately the same size. Step portions 33 having a predetermined width, that is, a width corresponding to the width of the interconnector 28 are formed over the entire length on both edges in the longitudinal direction of the rectangular plate-shaped substrate 32, and the liquid crystal display is placed on the upper surface of the step portion 33. Terminals 3 corresponding to the terminals of the panel 26 and electrically connected to the LSI chip
4, and terminals 35 electrically connected to the LSI chip are provided on both sides of the rectangular plate-shaped substrate 32 in the width direction. Incidentally, two predetermined terminals 34a and 34b of the terminals 34 provided on the upper surface of one step portion 33 are each extended to a predetermined length and are bent into a predetermined shape. 36 is a silver oxide battery, which is located at one step 3 of the LSI package 31.
3, the anode (i.e. peripheral surface) is connected to the terminal 34a, and the cathode (i.e. top)
4b, respectively. 3
Reference numeral 7 denotes a crystal resonator, which is disposed along the other step 33 of the LSI package 31 so as to be located substantially on the same plane as the LSI package 31.
8 are respectively soldered to two predetermined terminals among the terminals 34 provided on the upper surface of the other stepped portion 33. 39 and 40 are temperature compensation capacitors, respectively.
The trimmer capacitors are disposed near the sides of the LSI package 31 in the lateral direction, the temperature compensation capacitor 39 is placed on the top surface of a predetermined terminal among the terminals 35 of the LSI package 31, and the trimmer capacitor 40 is placed on the other terminals 35. As described above, according to the small electronic device of the present invention, in the electronic device having an optical display panel for optically displaying, the terminal of the LSI package that supplies electrical signals to the optical display panel is connected to the side edge of the LSI package. Since the step part is formed to correspond to the terminals of the optical display panel and the interconnector is interposed between the terminals of the LSI package and the terminals of the optical display panel, the conventional circuit board is not required. This reduces the number of parts, and as described above, the terminals of the LSI package are formed on the side edge step of the LSI package, and the interconnector is positioned on the outer surface of the upper part of the step, making it easier to assemble. To position the interconnector, simply place the interconnector on the side edge step and press it from the side to bring the side surface of the interconnector into contact with the upper outer surface of the step. In addition, in this state, the interconnector is supported by the LSI package on two sides, the bottom and side surfaces, so it will not easily fall over during assembly. Therefore, it is possible to improve assembly workability and mass production, and as a result, as mentioned above, there is no need for a relatively expensive circuit board, and this type of small electronic device can be manufactured inexpensively and reliably. It has features such as:
