Abstract

PURPOSE:To expedite the recovery of a controller by discriminating the destruction of a GTO by detecting a gate current of the GTO. CONSTITUTION:A controller for a vehicle has an inverter formed of GTOs 6, 7 through a current collector 2 from a trolley wire 1, a line breaker 3, a filter reactor 4 and a capacitor 5, controls it by gate circuits 11, 12 to drive an induction motor 10. In this case, detectors 13, 14 for detecting a current flowed to the gates of GTOs 6, 7 are provided. Thus, if the GTOs 6, 7 are damaged or shortcircuited by a turn OFF failure, excess currents flow to the gate circuits 11, 12. The excess currents are detected by the detectors 13, 14 to detect the destruction of the GTOs 6, 7.

Since the conventional GTO destruction detection system is configured as described above, it cannot be detected unless the GTO (7) turns on after the GTOtel is destroyed. That is, all GTOs are turned off when the inverter is stopped, but even if a GTO were to break down at this time, it could not be detected immediately. Therefore, even if the GTO is destroyed when the vehicle is stopped in the garage, it cannot be detected immediately, so there is a problem in that the abnormality is not known and recovery is delayed.
