Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the friction of a tape traveling surface and to improve the slip thereof as well as to improve wear resistance and workability by forming a cylinder body of a composite material consisting of carbon impregnated with an aluminum alloy. CONSTITUTION:A phenolic resin as a binding material is mixed with carbon and such mixture is molded into a cylinder body 1. When the molding is sintered, the resin melts and the sintered body of carbon is produced. A molten aluminum alloy is impregnated with the sintered body to form a composite material. The composite material is worked to form a cylinder body. Since the carbon is contained in the body 1, the fluctuation in friction is less and stable so that a tape traveling surface 2 has 0.15-0.2 coefft. of friction. Since the aluminum alloy is impregnated in the cylinder body, the wear resistance is good and the workability is improved as well.

Conventional VTR cylinders are made of cast aluminum alloy or cold forged materials, and have a relatively high coefficient of friction of about 0.4, which can cause damage to VTR tapes. This has the disadvantage that it is easy to use and has a negative effect on reproduced images. In addition, cast aluminum alloy materials have the disadvantage that casting defects occur on the surface of the cylinder, and these defects make the running of VTR tapes unstable. The drawback was that it was expensive.

This cylinder body 1 is made by molding a carphone with a phenolic resin mixed with caking (Δ), and when this molded body is sintered, the resin melts (J forms a sintered body of carbon. It is a composite material impregnated with aluminum alloy, and is formed by processing this composite material.

Therefore, the cylinder body 1 made of a composite material in which carbon is impregnated with an aluminum alloy is stable with little friction fluctuation because it contains carbon, and has a friction coefficient of 0.15 to 0.2, which is different from the conventional cylinder body 1. Item J: I was able to lower it. In addition, since it is impregnated with aluminum alloy, it has good wear resistance and has good workability.

Specific example 50% by weight of carbon with an average particle size of 40/1lll and 30 to 50% by weight of phenolic resin as a binder were mixed and compression molded at a press pressure of 30 to 60 ko/cm' and at a temperature of 400 to 600. Sintered at °C. Through this sintering, the phenolic resin was melted away, and 1q of carbon sintered bodies were obtained.
