Conventional structure and its problems In general, removing frost attached to the evaporator of a refrigerator or other chiller is
Defrosting is performed at fixed intervals by integrating the operating time of the compressor, or defrosting is performed when a certain number of times is reached by counting the number of openings and closings of the refrigerator and freezer compartment doors. However, the formation of frost on the evaporator of a refrigerator, etc. is greatly affected by the outside temperature and humidity of the refrigerator, the frequency of opening and closing of the refrigerator and freezer compartment doors, and the contents stored in the refrigerator. There were disadvantages such as defrosting was performed when necessary, and defrosting was not performed even though a large amount of frost formed on the evaporator and the refrigeration capacity was reduced.

Therefore, in order to overcome these drawbacks, various frost detection devices have been proposed that use light-emitting elements such as light-emitting diodes and light-receiving elements such as phototransistors as a means of directly detecting frost formation. Since the elements and light-receiving elements are formed exposed, there is a problem in that the characteristics deteriorate due to the influence of the external atmosphere, especially moisture and cooling/heating cycles.

That is, a mounting plate to which a light emitting element and a light receiving element are fixed is housed in a hollow case 6, and the mounting plate 9 is sealed with a sealing resin 1.
It is sealed at zero. The ambient conditions in which the frost detection device is used are harsh, with high temperature and humidity during defrosting and extremely low temperatures during cooling operation, but as described above, the cavity of case 6 is Since it has a completely sealed structure, it is not affected by moisture and has improved cold and heat cycle resistance.
