Abstract

The invention relates to a refrigerator comprising a freezable cooling surface (2, 4) and a cavity (13) adjacent to the cooling surface (2, 4), which is able to receive a layer of ice (14) forming on the cooling surface (2, 4). According to the invention, a beam path extends from a light source (21) to a light sensor (22) via a cavity (13), and an evaluation circuit (23, 24) is connected to the light sensor in order to evaluate, on the basis of the light quantity received by the light sensor (22), whether a critical quantity of ice is present in the cavity or not, and to deliver a warning signal if the critical quantity of ice is judged to be present.
