Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an algicidal paint compsn. which can inhibit the growth of green algae on a wall over a long period of time when used for the interior or exterior finish of buildings, containing a specified urea derivative as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:An algicidal paint compsn. contains 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1- dimethylurea as an active ingredient. This compd. is a non-hormonal systemic herbicide which is known as DCMU, and interferes with photosynthesis of weeds to thereby kill them. Accordingly, the compd. is effective in inhibiting the growth of algae including fresh water and marine green algae or flagellate algae which form chlorophyll. The compd. is incorporated in dry-curing, oxidation- polymerization or reaction-curing type paints, and the paints are then used for the interior or exterior finish of buildings, whereby the growth of algae on a wall can be inhibited over a long period of time.
