Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the dangers of breakage through melting or generation of smokes of an ink film from occurring due to passage of an electric current at the time of an abnormal feeding, by a method wherein an ink film feeding system is provided with a mechanism and a sensor for confirming the feeding condition of an ink film, and a transfer recording action is stopped when the ink film is not fed. CONSTITUTION:A guide roller 7 is rotatably provided, and is rotated by the ink film 2 as the film 2 is fed. A detecting disk 8 fastened to the guide roller 7 is also rotated as the ink film 2 is fed, and each of slits provided in the disk 8 is detected by the sensor 9. In the condition wherein the ink film 2 is fed normally, a signal pulse is generated by the sensor 9 at a fixed time interval. When an abnormal condition is generated in feeding the ink film 2, the width of the signal pulse from the sensor 9 is enlarged. The change in the signal pulse width is read by a controlling part 12 such as a microprocessor, and supply of source power to a recording head 6 is interrupted by a switch 13.

<Prior Art> In an electric thermal transfer recording device, a recording head is brought into close contact with a conductive layer of an ink film, and electricity is applied to generate heat, melting the ink layer and transferring it onto recording paper to obtain a desired recording. Ink films are required to be as thin as several tens of micrometers in terms of thermal conductivity and resolution. In this way, the ink film generates heat when electricity is applied to the conductive layer, and since it is thin, if the same part of the ink film is continuously energized for more than a certain period of time, the ink film will partially become hot, melt, and even emit smoke. Although it is dangerous, it is necessary to carry out electrical thermal transfer recording under reliable transport conditions of the ink film. In conventional electrical thermal transfer recording apparatuses, there is no appropriate means for checking the conveyance state of the ink film during electrical thermal transfer recording, and there is a risk that the ink film may melt or emit smoke.

Also, the recording paper 4 and the ink film 2 are connected to the platen roller 5.
The recording head 6 is held between the recording head 6 and conveyed in synchronization. In the above conveyance state, the recording head 6 applies electricity to the conductive layer formed on the side surface of the recording head 6 of the ink film 2 to generate heat, and the ink 1- on the side surface of the recording paper 4 of the ink film 2 is thermally melted and transferred onto the recording paper 4 to form the desired image. Records characters, symbols, etc. Electric thermal transfer recording is carried out as described above, and the guide roller 7 is rotatably provided and is rotated by the ink film as the paper towel/film 2 is conveyed. The detection disk 8, which is fixed to the guide roller 7, also rotates as the ink film is conveyed, and the sensor 9 detects each slit on the detection disk 8.
