Abstract

PURPOSE:A feed for breeding female pigs, obtained by incorporating bacteria Bacillus licheniformis therein, capable of improving the survival rate of borne piglings, and having high safety. CONSTITUTION:A feed for breeding female pigs containing bacteria Bacillus licheniformis. The bacteria Bacillus licheniformis to be used are facultative anaerobic bacteria belonging to the genus Bacillus, and not only bacteria isolated from nature but also a variant strain thereof may be effectively used. A variant strain Bacillus licheniformis MN-001 deposited as FERM-P No.266 MN- 001 is particularly preferred for the strain. The bacterial Bacillus licheniformis are cultivated in a liquid or solid culture medium. The amount of the bacteria Bacillus licheniformis to be added is 10<2>-10<15> bacterial cells, most desirably 10<5>-10<10> bacterial cells per kg feed.

Normally, each breeding sow gives birth to around 10 piglets. However, not all piglets born are weaned. Piglets are born weak and die before they are weaned. The number is by no means small.

In other words, the current survival rate (number of piglets weaned/number of piglets born) is unsatisfactory, and is a major issue that needs to be improved for breeders aiming for efficient livestock management.

The present inventors have conducted extensive research with the aim of improving the survival rate without relying on such breeding. Various studies have been carried out to improve the survival rate of piglets by incorporating microorganisms isolated from nature into feed for breeding sows. As a result, it was completely unexpectedly discovered that a feed for breeding sows containing Bacillus licheniformis is not biotoxic and has an excellent effect of improving the survival rate of piglets, leading to the completion of the present invention. It is something.
