Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 この発明は、D S M (Dynamic Scat
teringMode)  ’e利用したゲスト・ホス
ト型の液晶表示装置群に関するものである。
往来、DSMケ利用したゲスト・ホスト型の表示方式か
知ら第1ているが、用いクネマテイツク液晶の誘電率異
方性Δεは、駆動電圧の関係から−0,1以下のものを
使用していた。このようなΔε値の液晶を用いると、多
桁駆動(multiplex)は2桁程匿しかできない
という制約がめった。
この発明は、こうした従来例における欠点を解決するも
のである、 つぎに、1図面を参照して本発明に関してなした実験に
ついて説明する。
DAMを示す6種のネマティック液晶γ用いた。
各液晶の@電庵異方性Δεは、そノ]ぞれ−0,2゜−
0,3、−0,4、−0,5、−〇、6.−1.LlO
ものである。これらの液晶のそれぞtlについて、α値
’fなわち、表示電圧VONと不表示重圧V OFFの
比VoN/Vo+rr  f調べた。その結果は、そ1
+、それの液晶で、+、35,1.41.1.46,1
.57,1.79゜2.29の11−となった。この関
係が、図に示す曲線グラフで示さ、11ている。ところ
で、多桁駆動の桁数t、↓、α値との間に一定の関係が
あることが知らitており、たとえば、V−5V法で多
桁駆動可能な桁数ケ右fll11に示す。このグラフか
ら、Δεが一〇、4であれけαf直が1.46で、これ
に対応する駆動桁数は右側の縦軸から、7桁ということ
がわかる。すなわち、−0,4≦Δさくυのネマティッ
ク液晶を用いることにより、7桁以上の多桁躯動が可能
であることが明らかになった。
この発明によれば、7桁以上の多桁駆動が可能となり、
液晶表示装置の用途を拡げることができる。
