Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the variance of the response speed and the distrubance of orientation of a liquid crystal due to an external pressure, by making the second spacer member, which is arranged in a sealing member, larger than the first spacer member mix in the sealing member. CONSTITUTION:The second spacer member 5 having a diameter of 6-15mum are arranged in peripheral parts of electrode plates 1 and 2 where transparent electrodes 9 and 9' having prescribed shapes are formed on substrates 8 and 8' by patterning, and a sealing member 3 where the first spacer member 4 whose diameter is smaller than the average diameter of spacer member 5 by 0.5-2.0mum mixed in the sealing member 3 is arranged on the outside of the spacer member 5. Thus, the thickness of a liquid crystal layer and an electrochromic layer without variances, and an optical cell having a uniform interval is obtained.

In conventional liquid crystal display devices, the optical cell shown in Figure FPj1 is created by gluing the peripheral parts of a pair of electrode plates 1 and 2 with an adhesive such as epoxy resin so as to form a predetermined gap. was. At this time, in order to stabilize the gap 6 formed between the electrode plates 1 and 2 and the sealing member B, a first spacer is inserted inside the sealing member B and the sealing member 6 between the first spacer member 4 and the sealing member B. A second spacer member 5 having the same average diameter as the first spacer member 4 was disposed, but in reality, the first spacer member 4 disposed inside the cooling member B was the electrode plate 1.
and 2, the distance between the gaps 60 cannot be controlled by the spacer member 5, and this causes various drawbacks when used as a display device. One of them is that when the electrode plate 1 or 2 is pressurized, the alignment mode of the liquid crystal in that area is disturbed, making the display difficult to see. In addition, when displaying on a large panel, the gap 6 varies locally, resulting in the disadvantage that the response speed of the liquid crystal may vary locally.

In the optical cell of the present invention, the average diameter of the second spacer member 5 is 0.5 to 2 μm larger than that of the first spacer member 4.
.. Since it is 0.0 micron larger, the gap 7f that occurs in the conventional optical cell can be eliminated, and the second spacer member 5 can uniformly control the interval 60.
