Abstract

PURPOSE:To simultaneously take in plural pieces of video and to easily take images even into a narrow or complex place by utilizing the fineness and flexibility of an image guide, by connecting the image guide branched into plural parts at the image picking up side with a television camera after the image guide is tied up in a bundle at the image receiving side. CONSTITUTION:The picture image transmitting device of this invention is made by tying up optical fibers in one bundle for transmitting picture images and can be bent freely to a fair extent (with the bendable radius depending on the material) except both end parts. This system is an example of a system which simultaneously takes four pictures in one television camera. The image guide of this system is branched into four parts at the image picking up side and four pictures are respectively taken in the four image guides. The four image guides are tied in one bundle at the image receiving side and connected with the image receiving section of the television camera 3.

An image guide is a bundle of thousands to tens of thousands of optical fibers and is used to transmit images. Image guides differ from light guides made of the same optical fibers in one way.
A single fiber is arranged regularly on the end surface, and the individual fibers are matched at both ends, so that the image reflected on one end is reflected exactly on the other end surface.

As shown in FIGS. 2 and 4, each image guide (1) is composed of optical fibers (1) bundled through a cladding (4) so as to form a substantially rectangular bare image surface. Each of the image guides (1) is bundled into a single fiber on the image receiving side as shown in FIG. 5, and the image receiving surface of the bundled optical fibers (1) is shaped like a square. Each field-shaped image receiving surface corresponds to each image guide (1).
