Abstract

PURPOSE:To back up the defect of a display device provided previously and to facilitate the easy read-out of the display device by providing an another display device to a portable terminal device in addition to an existing display device. CONSTITUTION:An LED display device 1 is connected to a portable terminal device which is usually used just with a terminal device 3 via a connector 5 in case the contrast of liquid crystal display device LCD4 is made difficult to see owing to an environmental change. Then the display contents of the LCD4 are displayed to an LED display device 2. The data is transferred by a serial interface 12 provided in a standard way to the terminal 3. A CPU10 transfers the contents displayed to the device 4 to the device 1 via a controller 13 in the form of the serial data. A controller 7 of the device 1 sends the data sent from a serial interface 8 to the device 2 via an LED driver 6 to switch on the device 2.

Now, as an example, a case will be explained in which a liquid crystal display (hereinafter referred to as rLCD display) is used. LCD displays have the advantage of being able to have a dot-matrix configuration and having low power consumption, but on the other hand, when used in particularly dark or low-temperature locations, the contrast decreases and reading becomes difficult. Another disadvantage is that the viewing angle range becomes narrower as the contrast decreases. In order to compensate for these shortcomings, conventionally, the contrast was changed using a contrast adjustment volume to cope with the decrease in contrast, but since the external environment of mobile terminal devices changes rapidly, adjusting the contrast alone causes the problems mentioned above. It was difficult to respond to

The present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned points, and provides a portable terminal device equipped with a display device, in which a display device is provided on the portable terminal device separately from the display device so as to be removable, and the display device is attached in advance. A portable terminal device in which the separate display device can be used as a display device of the portable terminal device when the separate display device cannot be used as a display device due to reduced contrast or narrow viewing angle range. The purpose is to provide The present invention will be explained below based on the drawings.

FIG. 1 is a diagram showing the appearance of a portable terminal device that is an embodiment of the present invention. In the figure, 1 is a light emitting diode display device (hereinafter referred to as rLED display device) connected to a portable terminal device, and 2 is a light emitting diode display device (hereinafter referred to as rLED display device).
3 is a portable terminal device, 4 is an LCD display having a dot matrix configuration, and 5 is a connector for connecting the portable terminal device 3 and the LED display device 1. The LED display 2 is a block diagram shown in the LCD display 4, in which 6 is an LED driver, 7 is a controller, and 8 is a block diagram shown in an LCD display 4.
1 is a serial interface for signal transfer between the portable terminal device 3 and the LED display device 1; 9 is a battery for the LED display device 1; 1o is a CPU of the portable terminal device 3; 11 is an LCD driver; 12 is a serial interface for transferring signals between the portable terminal device 3 and the LED display device 1; 13 is the CPU 1';
A controller 14 is a memory that controls data transfer to the LED display 2 according to a command from O.

With the above configuration, only the portable terminal device 3 is used during normal use. When a change in the environment occurs and the LCD display 4 becomes difficult to see due to a decrease in contrast or a narrowing of the viewing angle range, the LED display 1 is connected to the portable terminal device 3 via the connector 5, and the LCD display 4 is connected to the LED display 2 via the connector 5. The display contents of the display unit 4 are displayed. The LED display 2 is effective as a display because the contrast does not deteriorate or the viewing angle range becomes narrow due to changes in the environment.

In the block diagram of FIG. 2, the LED display device 1 and the portable terminal device 3 are connected by a connector 5, but data transfer is performed using a serial interface 12, which is standardly equipped in the portable terminal device 3. For example, this is done using the R3232C signal. The content displayed on the LCD display 4 by the CPU 10 is transferred to the LED display device 1 as serial data via the controller 13. The controller 7 of the LED display device 1 transmits the data sent from the serial interface 8 to the LED driver 6.
Turn on display 2. The battery 9 is a power source for the LED display device 1 provided to cope with the increase in power consumption of the portable terminal device 3 when the LED display device 1 is connected.
