Conventionally, conductive rubber has generally been used to connect a liquid crystal panel and a circuit board. However, conductive rubber is difficult to align. In order to make an electrical connection, the conductive rubber must be pressed down with a certain amount of force, and it is difficult to adjust the amount of force. Easy to use with uneven presser foot. Conductive rubber? The crushing force can also cause the circuit board to bend or damage its reliability. There were drawbacks such as.

At least the liquid crystal panel 1 is driven and displayed on the circuit board 3. ■A drive element 4 such as C is mounted. Board 3
For example, a glass evo substrate, a paper evo substrate, a paper phenol substrate, or CC4 & (manufactured by Hitachi Chemical) is conveniently used. Gala Evo substrates have high reliability, such as having a high hardness, low heat shrinkage, and good environmental resistance. Paper evo substrates, paper phenol substrates, or 004 substrates are inexpensive. %
The manufacturing process for the 004 base is simple and the cost is low. The circuit board 3 needs to have a certain degree of hardness, and extremely soft materials such as flexible boards are generally not suitable. (ii) Since the connection between the liquid crystal panel 1 and the circuit board 3 is made by thermocompression bonding of the film-like electrode connector 5, compared to the case where conventional conductive rubber is used,
The hardness of the circuit board 3 is soft and good. On the circuit board 3, a metal pattern on the circuit board 3 is exposed to a pre-connection movement (hereinafter abbreviated as board connector section) 6 of the film-like electrode connector 5. The metal pattern is generally copper foil and has 3 to 2
Thickness of 0μm or less is better; ordinary copper foil is 39μm thick.
However, the circuit board 3 used in the uninvented liquid crystal display device
The thickness of the copper foil for the board connector portion 31 is within the range of 3 to 20 μm. A thin metal layer of 0.1 to 3 μm may be formed on the copper foil pattern by nickel plating, hammer plating, gold plating, gold flash, electroless gold plating, silver plating, silver flash, or electroless silver plating. In the case where such a thin metal layer is formed, the thickness of the metal pattern of the board connector portion 61 is within the range of 3 to 20 μm including the thin metal layer. By forming a thin metal layer on a metal pattern such as copper foil, the reliability of the electrical connection between the film electrode connector 5 and the circuit board &3 is improved due to rust prevention of the metal pattern. The electrical resistance of the connecting portion is reduced, and when driving the liquid crystal panel, there is no sag in the driving waveform due to the number of OR0 times, so there are advantages such as the same driving display characteristics as above. This is a great advantage when forming a thin metal on copper foil.In fields where reliability is particularly important, electrolytic gold plating is used, and when the terminals cannot be removed for electrolytic plating, electroless gold plating is used. It is best to use gold plating or gold flash. External terminals 32 are provided at the ends of the circuit board 3 for electrical connection to the outside. A connector may be connected to this. At the four ends of the circuit board 3,
A mounting hole 30, which is a through hole, is provided so that this liquid crystal display device can be mounted to all external devices.

The film-like electrode connector 5 electrically connects the circuit board 3 and the liquid crystal panel 1. The film-like 11-pole connector 5 is made by forming a lead part and a lead part on a polyester film having a thickness of 10 to 50 μm, for example. An insulating part is formed, at least the insulating part is made of hot melt adhesive, and the liquid crystal panel 1 and the circuit board 3 are connected to each other. Electrical and mechanical connections are made by thermocompression bonding. For the conductive pattern section, a bed of conductive powder such as silver powder, graphite powder, or carbon black is mixed into an epoxy, rubber, or thermoplastic adhesive, and screen printing is performed to create a redundant pattern. printed.

There is. Other examples of such conductive adhesives, hot-melt wettable agents, insulating adhesives or coatings, and film 8-electrode connectors are described in detail in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 55-60987. The film-like electrode connector 5 disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 55-60987 is called "Heat Seal" (Japan Graphite KKfi). This film-like electrode connector is connected to a liquid crystal panel or a circuit board by heat and pressure, in an airtight and mechanical manner. The heat and pressure bonding conditions are, for example, 5 Kg/ct/I under pressure of 180 mm. ℃ for about 10 seconds is sufficient.

The thickness is about 0.1 to 4 mm. The liquid crystal panel 1 maintains a distance between the liquid crystal panel 1 and the circuit board 3 by a support 60 and a hard member 60. There is a hard member 6 in the support 6.
Since 0 is placed, the gap between the liquid crystal panel 1 and the circuit board 5 is added to a certain value, and cannot be less than that value. The conductive pattern portion of the terminal connection portion of the film-like electrical connector 5 is mechanically attached to the adherend such as the liquid crystal panel 1 or the circuit board 3 using a hot-melt insulating adhesive formed outside the conductive pattern portion. If the elastic body 61 is connected to
11. is pressing the terminal part against the hot melt adhesive. In addition to adhesion, since the force exerted by the pressing force of the elastic body 61 acts, the reliability of the connection is improved both mechanically and electrically. Even if the film-like electrode connector 5 has a conductive hot-melt adhesive layer formed on the conductive pattern portion of the terminal connection portion, the mechanical and electrical connection cannot be achieved when the elastic body 61 is used to hold the film-like electrode connector 5. The reliability is the same as above. Since the elastic member 61 is formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the hard member 60 and constitutes the support body 6, the hard member 60 constituting the support body 6 does not directly contact the film-like electrode connector 5, and the hard member 60 There is no breakage or tearing of the connector due to edges, corners, etc. of the member 60.
