Claims

A filter capable of collecting exhaust particulates from a diesel engine is provided in the exhaust passage, a ceramic heater is disposed close to or in close contact with the filter on the upstream side of the filter, and the particulates adhere to the filter by energizing the heater. In a non-gas purifying device for a diesel engine that ignites and burns exhaust particulates, the ceramic heater has a plurality of heater elements each having a substantially square shape when viewed from the upstream side of the filter. These heater elements are sandwiched by an annular insulator along the inner circumference of the filter container, and the insulator is divided into the same number of heater elements as the heater elements. In the exhaust gas purification device, each insulator element is arranged astride an adjacent heater element.
