In recent years, with the westernization of dietary habits, the demand for asparagus for raw consumption or for processing has increased significantly. Among them, the demand for green asparagus for raw consumption is showing a remarkable increasing trend. Traditionally, asparagus has been produced in cool regions such as Hokkaido and Nagano.
In response to the recent increase in demand, asparagus production has begun in the warm southwest region with the aim of shipping in February or March.

It has been well known that attempts have been made to cultivate asparagus in mulch in greenhouses and to apply ethylene generators to promote the germination of asparagus. However, with simple mulch cultivation, it is easily affected by weather conditions and it is difficult to stably obtain a large harvest around February and August. Also, with the method of using an ethylene generator, ethylene production from the ethylene generator occurs in a short period of time. After applying the ethylene generator to broken soil, mulching must be carried out within an extremely short working time, and this method cannot necessarily be said to be sufficient for agricultural work.

The inventors of the present invention continued to conduct intensive studies with the aim of stably growing asparagus (increasing yield) from the above-mentioned viewpoints, and discovered that these objectives could be effectively achieved by applying methionine. Completed the invention.

The methionine used in the method of the present invention is one that is easily produced industrially by a known method. It is clear that methionine is not toxic to humans and livestock, as methionine is widely used as a feed additive and is an essential amino acid.

When applying such methionine to the medium (soil) in which asparagus is cultivated, it may be applied alone or mixed with an appropriate carrier as necessary, or it may be applied to the soil. It is also possible to apply it by incorporating it into a fertilizer composition, and there are no particular restrictions on the form of application. When incorporating methionine into a fertilizer composition, if the fertilizer composition is in powder form, methionine can be easily incorporated by simply mixing the methionine into the fertilizer composition as it is.

Furthermore, when granulating the fertilizer composition, methionine is advantageous because it acts as a granulation accelerator.

0 per methio a applied to asparagus cultivation medium
.. It is used in the range of 5-50 to 50 V or less. At this time, if the amount of methionine applied is a small amount below this range, the effect will be so small that it will be difficult to put it into practical use. Furthermore, if methionine is applied in an amount exceeding this range, the yield commensurate with the amount of methionine applied cannot be obtained, and it cannot be said to be economically advantageous. Methionine is generally applied 2 weeks to 2 months before asparagus sprouts, but is not necessarily limited to this.

As described above, according to the method of the present invention, compared to the conventional asparagus cultivation method, the yield is 96 to 40% by weight.
It was also recognized that this is an extremely excellent method for cultivating asparagus, as it can be easily incorporated into a conventional fertilization system.
