Abstract

PURPOSE:To make rewrite to an electric calculator possible, by providing a writing means which stops the processing device of an electronic device to designate a rewritable memory and an address of an ROM of a writing device simultaneously and reads out data from the writing device to transfer this data to the memory. CONSTITUTION:An electric calculator 1 is provided with an MPU (microprocessor) 2, an RAM 3, a power source 4, an input/output means 5 such as a keyboard and a display, a gate circuit 5-1, and a power switch 6, and microprograms stored in the RAM 3 are executed successively to perform operations. When an ROM pack 14 is connected through a connector 7, an address counter 17 is initialized by a connection detecting circuit 15. By the connection of the connector 7, the operation of microprograms in the electric calculator is stopped temporarily. Next, the RAM is made writable, and data of an ROM16 is transferred to the RAM 3. After all data are written, the electric calculator is reset. Thus, functions of the electric calculator are updated to store new microprograms in the RAM.

In general, to be able to easily change functionality,
To install the ROM inside the calculator, an R○M socket is prepared in advance at a location, making it easy to install and remove the ROM. Alternatively, as a way to add additional functions, you can add additional functions to the calculator by providing a storage space in the calculator to store the ROM pack, storing the ROM pack, and connecting the signal from the ROM in the ROM pack to the circuit inside the calculator. There is a way to add it. In this case, when it becomes necessary to change the ROM inside the calculator, it is necessary to remove and install the ROM, and for this purpose, it is necessary to obtain a ROM socket in advance.

The drawing is a block diagram of a calculator and a ROM pack according to an embodiment of the present invention. Calculator 1 has MPU 2゜RAM 3, battery and power supply circuit 4. It is assumed that it is composed of an input/output means 5 such as a keyboard and a display, a gate circuit 5-1, and a power switch 6, and is operated by successively executing micro programs stored in a RAM 3. Even if the power is turned off by the power switch 6, the microprograms stored in the R and A M 3 will not volatilize because the RAM 3 is backed up by a battery. Therefore,

The ROM pack 14 detects that it is connected to the calculator by the operation of the connection detection circuit 15, and sets the address counter 17 in the ROM pack 14 to an initial state. At the same time as the connector 7 is connected, the HALT terminal 13 of the MPU is connected to the logic 91'' (

Next, in order to make the RAM in the calculator ready for writing, the read signal 10 is set to logic 'o' (false output) and the write signal 11 is set to logic '1' (true output). counter 17
starts counting up after reaching the initial state, and the count value simultaneously specifies the address of ROM 16 in the ROM pack and the address of RAM 3 in the calculator, and transfers the data in ROM 16 to RAM 3. When the transfer is completed, the address counter 17 counts up and transfers the ROM data of the next address to the RAM. This is repeated in sequence to transfer all the microprograms in the ROM 16 to the RAM. When all transfers of ROM addresses are completed, the counter 17 outputs a completion signal, and a calculator reset signal 1 is output.

As described in 1- above, according to the present invention, simply by electrically coupling the writing device to an electronic device having a program-rewritable memory, the writing device receives power and performs rewriting. Therefore, the electronic device does not require a program for rewriting or a special hardware configuration for rewriting. Therefore, an electronic device coupled to the writing device according to the present invention can receive rewriting only by having a coupling means for coupling in terms of hardware.

1.Currently, LSIs are becoming more and more integrated into chip LSIs with built-in MPU, ROM, and RAM.
Usually, it is a ROM that cannot be rewritten. If the microprogram is different and the data stored in the ROM is changed, the equipment manufacturer has had to request the LSI manufacturer to order a separate LSI. This was a big disadvantage for stone manufacturers in terms of cost. Therefore, according to the present invention, if the structure of the LSI is configured to include only the MPU and RAM and no ROM, and the microfist program is transferred from the ROM pack to the RAM, it is possible to have various microprograms using the same LSI. It becomes possible to produce the device.
