Claims

[Scope of utility model registration request]

In an optical linear encoder that detects the amount and direction of movement of a scale plate with respect to a detection unit, the scale plate has two parts whose intervals unilaterally change along the movement direction.
The detecting section is provided with an image sensor that performs a reading scan in a direction perpendicular to the moving direction, and the distance between the two boundaries is determined based on the read output of the image sensor. An optical linear encoder characterized in that it is provided with a signal processing means for detecting the direction of change in interval.
