Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、シールスペーサｔｒｌｌを一体的に形成した
プラスチック基板を備えた液晶表示装置に関するもので
ある。
従来液晶表示装置におけるシールスペーサ部ハ、ガラス
ファイバーやアルミナ粉末等の形状、粒形のそろったも
のをシール剤に混入し、このシール剤で上下基板の周縁
部をＤＪ、ｔｌ：して形成せしめているが、スペーサー
の形状、粒度などが一定しないので、セル厚が部分的に
バラツキ、例えばニュートン干渉色がでたシ、レスポン
スが異なる等、好ましくない影響がでている。
本発明はこのような難点を有利に解決したものであシ、
プラスチック基板から成る液晶表示セルで、少なくとも
一方の基板に、セルの有効部外にシール・スペーサ部を
一体的に形成したプラスチック基板を備えたことを特徴
とする液晶表示装置である。
本発明はこのようにシールスペーサ部をグラスチック基
板に１体的に設けることによシ、従来用いるスペーサー
材の形状に不都合は一切なく、安定したセル厚が得られ
、その製作に際しても工程が安定し、均一性に優れかつ
高精度のセル厚が得られるので表示装置としての信頼性
が向上する顕著な効果をもたらすものである。
本発明においてプラスチック基板としては、ポリスチレ
ン、ポリカー、１１ネート、ポリエステル、アクリル樹
脂、エポキシ樹脂、フェノール樹脂、ポリエチレン、ポ
リプロピレン、ポリイミド、ポリアミド、ポリ酢酸ビニ
ル、ポリ塩化ビニル、トリアセチルセルロース、ポリサ
ルホン、ホリエーテルサルホンなどを適宜使用するもの
である。
本発明においてはこれらのプラスチックを基板として用
い、型押しロールを用いる型押し、又は済剤或ｄドライ
エツチング法等によシシールスベーザ一部を形成するも
のである。
以下図面にボす実施例によシ評述する。
ポリメタアクリレート基板ｌにプレス成型で図示の如く
シール・ス（−ザ部（厚さ８μ）２を形成する。シール
・スペーサ一部の厚さくｈ）は、３μ〜５０μとするこ
とが適当で、好ましくは５μ〜２０μとすることが適当
である。また、巾（ｒ）は、数十μ〜５００μとすると
とが適当で、好ましくは５０μ〜２００μとすることが
適している。
この基板１及びこれに貼シ合せる基板１′に図示の如（
Ｉ　Ｔ　Ｄ　（ＳｎＯ２をドープしたＩｎ２ｏ、　）の
透明型＆膜を設け、これらを配向処理して１ン１示の如
く上下基板１．１′を重ね合せ接合部を熱ｍ着又は接着
剤で固定する。次いで注入口よシネマチック液晶４を注
入し封口して液晶装置′ｆ：構成する。
なお盛装に応じてプラスチック電極基板を配向せしめず
、配向膜を設け、間膜を配向処理してもよい。このため
の配向膜としては、ポリエチレン、ポリアミド、ポリイ
ミド、ポリフッ化エチレン、ポリパラキシリレン、ポリ
イミダゾール、二酸化珪累、酸化チタニウムなどが適宜
用いられる。
又プラスチック基板はＩＴＤを形成後に抑圧等によシシ
ールスペーサ部を形成してもよい。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. プラスチック基板から成る液晶表示セルで、少くとも一
    方の基板に、セルの有効部外にシール、スペーサ部を一
    体的に形成したプラスチック基板を備えたことを特徴と
    する液晶表示装置。
