Abstract

PURPOSE:A semimetallic friction material useful as a lining material for a drum brake or a padding material for a disc brake, having high corrosion-resistance effect, obtained by applying a coating compound containing zinc powder or a zinc compound to the periphery of a semimetallic friction material. CONSTITUTION:A normal-temperature drying or thermosetting coating compound is blended with 30-90wt% zinc powder or zinc compound, and applied to a semimetallic friction material containing an iron type metal and a thermosetting resin as a binder by a brush, to give the desired semimetallic friction material.

Conventionally, organic friction materials containing asbestos fibers as reinforcing materials have been used as friction materials for automobiles.
Recently, in order to maintain frictional properties at temperatures above 30°F (°C or higher), steel coolant, iron powder, graphite, etc. are used as main ingredients, and phenol and ebony ν are used as main ingredients.

However, since this semi-metallic friction material has a high iron content, copper metal is less than 100%, and since rock salt, calcium chloride, etc. are used for lightning defusing, especially in snowy areas, these chlorine ions can cause iron content in the semi-metallic friction material. acts on and promotes rust,
In particular, if rust occurs inside the friction material, the strength will drop significantly and wear will increase, and if the rust is significant, melting may occur that may lead to the friction material falling off.

In order to test the rust-preventing effects of these products, 40 samples each of the conventional product without anti-rust measures and the example product of the present invention were tested.
After heating and deteriorating for 3 hours in an oven at 0°C, it was immersed in a 5% salt solution for 1 hour, and this process was repeated 5 times. After leaving it for 10 days, the friction material was observed for rust on the outer periphery and inside. As a result, the following table shows the results. As shown in the figure, rust is observed all over the outer periphery of the conventional product, and rust is also found scattered here and there inside the friction material, while almost no burrs are found on the outer periphery or inside of the example product. It is certain that the effect is great. Thus, the present invention is an extremely useful semi-metallic friction material that can achieve great effects with a simple structure.
