Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of an original production by providing a correspondence table of abbreviated character and normal character and inputting data with abbreviated character. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern on an original is read by a character read part 1 and when a character pattern signal S1 is inputted to a character recognition part 2, the recognition part 2 retrieves a character pattern coincident most with the signal S1 in a character pattern data storage part 3 to output a corresponding character code S2. The character code S2 from the recognition part 2 is supplied to a code decision part 4 to detect the most significant digit bit, discriminating between an abbreviated or normal character code. Consequently, when it is decided that the code S2 is the normal character code, the code is sent directly to a character output part 6. When the code S2 is the abbreviated code, the decision part 4 retrieves the contents of a storage part 5 to obtain a normal character code S3 corresponding to the abbreviated character code, and sends it to the character output part 6.

The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and an object of the present invention is to provide a character processing device that can output the correct characters corresponding to the abbreviations even if the manuscript has abbreviations.

以下本発明の一実施例を図面に従って説明する。An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.

FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing the configuration of a character processing device that is an embodiment of the present invention. In the figure, reference numeral 1 denotes a character reading section, which optically reads an inserted document and outputs a character pattern signal S1 for each character in the document. Reference numeral 2 denotes a character recognition unit, which searches a character pattern data storage unit 6 that stores character pattern data of a plurality of regular characters and abbreviations corresponding to the regular characters in advance, and reads the character pattern S1 sent from the character reading unit 1. The character code 82 that most matches the character code 82 is output. The character code S2 outputted by this character recognition unit 2 is, for example, 1 as shown in FIG.
It consists of 6 bits, and the most significant bit shown by a) K has an abbreviation bit added to indicate whether the character in the matching pattern is an abbreviation or regular character, and the 15 bits shown by b indicate the character code. has been done. In this embodiment, when this abbreviation bit is "1", it indicates an abbreviation, and when it is "0", it indicates a regular character. Reference numeral 4 denotes a code determination section which determines whether the character code S2 from the character recognition section 2 is an abbreviated code. If it is an abbreviation, the storage device 5 in which the abbreviation-original correspondence table is stored is searched, and the code S3 of the orthographic character is obtained and sent to the character output section 6 which outputs the character. In the storage device 5, as shown in FIG. 6, there is a one-to-one correspondence between the character codes of abbreviations and the character codes of regular characters, and by subtracting the character code S2, the regular character code S3 is obtained.

Next, the operation of the character processing device configured as described above will be explained. First, when a certain character pattern on a document is read by the character 11 reading section 1, the character reading section 1 outputs the character pattern signal S1. When the character pattern signal S1 output from the character reading section 1 is input to the character recognition section 2, the character recognition section 2 selects the character pattern signal S1 that most matches the character pattern signal S1. -'' is searched for in the character pattern data storage unit 6, and a character code S2 corresponding to the searched character pattern is output.

If the character pattern searched by the character recognition unit 2 is a regular character pattern, the output character code S2
The most significant bit of ``0'' is output, and if it is an abbreviation, the most significant bit of ``1'' is output. Next, the character code output from the character recognition section 2 is determined by the code determination section 4 as to whether it is a regular character code or an abbreviated character code by detecting the most significant bit. If the character code S2 output from the character recognition unit 2 is determined to be an orthographic character code, the character code S2 is directly sent to the character output unit 6. Further, when determining that the character code S2 outputted from the character recognition unit 2 is an abbreviated character code, the code determination unit 4 searches the storage device 5 in which the abbreviated character-orthographic correspondence table is stored, and uses the abbreviated character code. The orthographic code S3 corresponding to is obtained and sent to the character output unit 6 which outputs characters.

In the above embodiment, it is assumed that the abbreviation-orthography correspondence table of the storage device 5μ+ is prepared in advance in the device, but it is possible for the manuscript creator to freely rewrite this correspondence table. It is possible to create an abbreviation for . Furthermore, by assigning a plurality of regular letters to one manuscript abbreviation, it becomes possible to output a formal word by writing the abbreviation on the manuscript, and it also becomes possible to output a long word in a simple abbreviation.

As explained above, by providing a correspondence table between abbreviations and regular characters and allowing input using abbreviations, there is no need to worry about creating a manuscript in regular characters, and this has the effect of greatly increasing the efficiency of manuscript creation.
