This problem can be solved by providing an appropriate number of shutter segments in addition to the character segments, and adopting a configuration in which the shutter segments are selectively turned on or off depending on the display state, and the solar cell The amount of incident light is kept approximately constant regardless of the display state. That is, as the number of lit character segments increases, the number of shutter segments lit is decreased, and as the number of lit character segments decreases, the number of shutter segments lit is increased.

The amount of light incident on the solar cell 4 changes depending on the number of lit character segments. In order to minimize this change and keep the amount of light incident on the solar cell 4 substantially constant, the shutter segments are selectively turned on or off depending on the number of lit character segments.
