Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a plated product having a long life and producing no pit by blasting cast iron powder on the surface of a Ti material to provide a satin state by blasting before plating the Ti material. CONSTITUTION:Cast iron powder is blasted on the surface of a Ti material to provide a satin state by blasting. The treated surface is similar to a surface treated by blasting with Al2O3 powder, yet cast iron powder biting into the treated surface is easily removed unlike Al2O3 powder. The cast iron powder can be removed almost thoroughly by pretreatment with a liq. mixture of H2SO4 with H2O2 or by the pretreatment combined with ultrasonic treatment in alkali. When the pretreated Ti is used as an electrode substrate and plated with Pt, an effecient electrode having a long life, preventing the stripping-off of the Pt plating, and producing not a pit can be obtd.

As can be seen from the above explanation, in the pretreatment method for titanium materials according to the present invention, cast iron powder is sprayed onto the surface of the titanium material to perform a blast treatment to roughen it to a satin-like appearance. Powder can be easily and almost completely removed by acid treatment. Therefore, when this titanium material is plated with KPt, no bits are generated, the Pt plating does not peel off, and it is possible to obtain an efficient product with good adhesion and a long life.
