Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance combustion efficiency and loading rate of an engine with its number of working cylinders controlled, by sending signals of resting and releasing cylinders over a period covering two or more cycles in succession. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder resting signal A from the resting cylinder judgement circuit 9 will stop the operation of a poppet valve 6 and put individual cylinders 1-4 in resting after the engine E has revolved approximately 2 turns. When each solenoid 7 is deenergized the poppet valve 6 is put in operation after oil pressure is sent out of the actuator 53 and the engine E has revolved approximately 2 turns, to restitute the cylinders 1-4 individually to the working condition. Because, according to this arrangement, the control means 12 gives out the resting and releasing signals alternately each in a period covering two consecutive cycles, supply of the control signal can be matched with the operational delay of the valve operation stop mechanism M to ensure good performance of restitution to the woking condition.
