Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent an off-track due to a difference of thermal expansion between a disk and an arm, by reversing and offsetting a difference of thermal expansion between the disk and gimbals, and a difference of thermal expansion between the disk and a base.
CONSTITUTION: An arm 15 consists of a material having an almost same coefficient of thermal expansion as that of a disk 10, and is formed in such a shape as its thermal time constant is small, and is fixed to a base 12 through a heat insulating material 16. Also, a distance γB between the center of a spindle and the fixed position of the arm is prescribed as shown by the expression (3) (provided that αD, αG and αB denote coefficients of thermal expansion of the disk, the gimbals and the base, respectively, and lG denotes length of the gimbals). In this way, the extent of off-track is made nearly zero.
