Abstract

PURPOSE: A germicidal composition, containing a biguanide germicide and a specific nonionic surfactant, and having a synergistic germicidal activity.
CONSTITUTION: A germicidal composition containing a biguanide germicide e.g. an organic acid salt of chlorhexidine expressed by formula I, polyhexamethylenebiguanidine hydrochloride expressed by formula II, and a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether expressed by formula III (R is alkyl; m is an integer 3W40), preferably at a weight ratio between the biguanide germicide and the polyoxyethylene alkyl ether of 1:1W3. The synergistic effect of the biguanide germicide and the surfactant is produced conversely without inactivating the biguanide germicide. The resultant composition can be diluted in commonly used water, e.g. well water, hard water or tap water.
