Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the short-circuit between the upper edges of plates and the shelf portions of those plates of opposite polarity, by allowing the folded back portions of nearly M-letter formed separators interposed between the plates. To project from the upper edges of plates and covering the upper edge surfaces of the plates by squashing those projecting portions. CONSTITUTION:Separators 1a mainly made of glass fiber are folded into a shape nearly like character of M by folding them in their central portions like a valley and further folding reversely each central portion of folded sides like a mountain. Next, the portions folded like a mountain are supported with separator supporting jigs 8 composed of rising portions 8a and flat portions 8b, and anode plates 2 and cathode plates 3 are inserted respectively and alternately into the folded portions like a valley and between the separator 1a. Then, the whole of the above is compressed in the direction of the thickness of a plate group as soon as the separator supporting jigs 8 is removed. Thereafter, the projections 1b projecting upward from the plates 2, 3 after being folded, shall be squashed horizontally in an extended form to cover the top surfaces of the plates 2, 3.
